Phone and fax numbers on the main UTB campus have remained the same.   Phone and fax numbers at ITEC, Cueto, Lucena, Young House, and SPI will change.  Numbers at these areas will have a 882 prefix like the main campus.   Click here for a list of new numbers for off-campus areas.

Currently, the address of the main campus is displayed if an emergency call originates from a UTB VoIP phone.   This applies to the main UTB campus, Young House, Cueto, Lucena, Port Isabel Lab, SPI, etc..   The only exception to this is for calls originating from ITECC.   The main ITECC address will be displayed for the emergency calls originating from ITECC.   E911 is currently being programmed which will provide your specific location to emergency services personnel.

If you move your phone, you must notify the Help Desk that you have done so in order to have the E911 database updated.    Your department secretary can create a Track-It work order for this.     Please make sure that the name, extension, and your new location (building and room number) are included in the description.

Calling cards will continue to work as they did with the old phone system.    Here are the steps to make long distance calls using your calling code:

      1.  Dial 9, then long distance number (e.g.  1.800.555-1212).

      2.  Phone will then prompt for Authorization Code.

      3.  Enter the Authorization Code followed by "#" or simply wait for code to be

               accepted.

      4.  Call should connect.

You must have a calling card If you need to help users make an international call.   A calling can be obtained through the Business Office.

For international calls, AT&T has different international access numbers to dial when using a calling card.     Here is a site where you can look up country codes and the AT&T calling card access codes à  http://www.business.att.com/bt/dial_guide.jsp.    For instance, the international access code for Ecuador is 1-800-225-5288.

Therefore, instead of dialing the usual 800-***-**** to when using a calling card,

Dial 1-800-225-5288

When prompted, enter 011-593- # - ### - ####  (011 is for international,

593 is the country code for Ecuador)

When prompted enter your calling card code.

What is VoIP?

Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), is a technology that allows you to make voice calls using a Internet connection instead of a regular (or analog) phone line.

Why VoIP?

Simplified infrastructure. With VoIP on your network you no longer need separate cabling for your telephone system.

Scalable. Traditional PABX (Private Automatic Branch Exchange) based phone systems come in many size ranges and it may be necessary periodically to scrap existing systems and replace hardware; this is not the case with VoIP systems. Reduce operating costs. Because a VoIP exchange is based on software rather than hardware, it is easier to alter and maintain.

What has Changed?

The new VoIP phones will have all of capabilities of your old phones and more. In addition to the basics, your phone will have caller id, history of received and dialed calls, built-in directory, and much more. Your new VoIP phone has an LCD window to guide each step of the way. In addition to the on-line training and hands-on training offered, every phone will come with its own manual to help you.

Every effort has been made to keep all dialing procedures the same as your old phone. For example, for a local call, use the “9” prefix; for a call in the Rio- Grande Valley calling area, use the “*5” prefix; etc..

Do the Older/Analog Credit Card Machines Work?

The older analog phone line (TDM) based credit card machines do not function properly with our VoIP system.

A recommended credit card machine is the VeriFone Vx570 which can be viewed at this link -->  VeriFone Vx570 Credit Card Machine

For purchases, see -->  VeriFone's Sales Contacts
